How many days celebration ?
by: Anonymous

I have visited Chiang Mai several times during the few years for Yee Peng. They usually celebrate for 3 nights, sometimes their final night is 1 day after the actual day so that their final night is diffent from Sukhotai's.
Can anyone confirm when is their celebrations for this year ? Just Sat & Sun or fri or monday included ?

I need to know their exact days so that I can attend Sukhotai's too.

Thank you.

Which area is the best place to be?
by: MithunOnThe.net

Hey,
I'm arriving in Bangkok on November 12th and will be in Chiang Mai on the 18th. Last time I stayed just off Loi Kroh road, close to Thapai Gate. I would like to be in a location from where I can witness the release of the lanterns and small floats (kathrongs) they release into the waters.

Where would you recommend I base myself?

Thanks.

21st November - Loy Krathong Festival
by: Kevin (Administration)

Hi
If you arrive reasonably early in Bangkok & can get to Chiang Mai by say lunchtime then there will be activities & parades on during the day & then the traditional "launching" of the "Krathongs" (decorated boats), there will also be loads of "Khom Loys" (Thai Lanterns) launched throughout the evening & lots of fireworks!!.

So even though you will miss some of the celebrations, it is still well worth a visit if you can arrive early enough!.

Yi Peng
by:

Hi!

I'm arriving at Bangkok on the 21st November, and I was thinking on going to Chiang Mai by plane directly for the Yi Peng, is it worth it? Because I was told the lantern festival is only on the 20th November... :(

Thanks

Loy Krathong Festival 2010
by: Kevin (Administration)

Hi Gretchen

Many thanks for your questions regarding the Loy Krathong Festival in 2010.

The Loy Krathong Festival this year takes place across the whole of Thailand on the evening of the full moon of the 12th Lunar month, which falls on the 21st November in 2010.

In Chiang Mai the Loy Krathong Festival which is also known as "Yee Peng" is celebrated over two nights which includes street parades, a beauty competition & general celebrations Thai style!. This will take place Saturday 20th November & Sunday 21st November.

Its a great time of year to visit Chiang Mai, as the nights are Cooler & everyone just loves Loy Krathong, just make sure you book your Accommodation in plenty of time, as this is the start of high season in Chiang Mai & the Loy Krathong Festival attracts not just foreign visitors, but many Thai's from other parts of the country, as Chiang Mai provides one of the best displays!.

I hope that we have been able to answer your questions satisfactorily, if you have further questions about any aspect of Thailand please don't hesitate to Contact Us ,we are always happy to try & help our website visitors.

Kind Regards
