When Are Sky Lanterns Released?

Are there any festivals/celebrations when sky lanterns are released, other than Loy Krathong? I'd really like to see it while I'm living in Asia, but getting there for Loy Krathong doesn't look like it will be possible for me this year.

Without doubt the Loy Krathong Festival is the most impressive time to visit Chiang Mai if the sky lanterns are of particular interest....it is simply stunning!.

Other times of the year when they are released (but not anywhere near the volume of Loy Krathong) are Christmas / New Year & over the Songkran Festival in April.

Personally, nothing comes close to the Loy Krathong Festival for the sheer beauty of the mass release of the Khom Loys (lanterns).....I would recommend you try to visit during that period.
