Visit to Maeklong Market,
Samut Songkhram

by Suriani

The Maeklong Railway Market

The Maeklong Railway Market

Hi!
I am planning to visit the Maeklong Market at Samut Songkhram with some friends in October or November. We have a few questions that hopefully you will be able to help us with:

1) Where should we stay (we are planning only to be there for 3 days/2 nights)?
2) Where else can we visit besides the market?
3) Are Muslim food available?
4) How far is the accommodation recommended from the airport? Which airport are we supposed to fly to?
5) Is Phuket or Pattaya nearby?

Thanks

Suriani

Visit To Maeklong Railway
by: Kevin (Administration)

Hi Suriani

Many thanks for visiting our website, we hope you found it useful in helping you plan your visit.

In terms of your questions, I will try and answer them collectively but covering each particular query you have, I also recommend you read each of the pages that are linked to this page, as there is lots of useful info here for you:

Maeklong Railway is located south west of Bangkok, and is usually visited as a half-day/full day visit, please read Richard Barrows excellent article about his visit to the railway. There is a full range of Thai foods available both on the railway & at the actual market, all the areas that have coastal or near coastal locations have busy Muslim communities, many of which are still actively involved with the sea & fishing activities.

Other places to visit in the Samut Songkhram include the Floating Market at Amphawa

Personally I would suggest that you visit the Maeklong Railway as part of the time you spend in Bangkok, it is also much easier to also then travel to whichever Beach Destination you choose & you will have the choice of flights, buses or trains.

Hopefully this has answered your questions, if you have further enquiries, please feel free to contact us again.

Kind Regards
Kevin
