Ten Great Reasons -
to Visit Thailand

Great Reasons to Visit Thailand

"Give me ten great reasons to visit Thailand", if I asked you this question what would they be?.

Thailand is one amazing country!. From its northernmost province of Chiang Rai all the way down to Narathiwat the Kingdom’s southernmost province, the country is literally peppered with both natural and man-made wonders.

Thailand’s culturally rich and colorful past is that of one of the oldest civilizations in the world, it’s temples & palaces are legendary & it’s natural beauty shines through everywhere you go.

The northern region of Thailand has a slightly cooler seasonal climate than its southern cousins, the north is generally mountainous with dense jungles & stunning waterfalls.

The southern region has wonderful pristine beaches & crystal clear seas that feature on many a home video or picture postcard!.

In between are Bangkok & the central region which are very much the “Commercial Hub” of the country yet still hugely rich in culture being the powerbase of Thailand for the last 700+ years.

But, armed with all of the information here & everything you also know, what would be YOUR ten great reasons to Visit Thailand ,for your interest, here’s ours, but not in any order of importance:

Thai Street Food

Thai Food – personally I would travel to Thailand JUST for the Thai Food , I don’t care what anyone says, the food here tastes different & much better than at any Thai restaurant anywhere else in the world.

There are considerable regional variations, so as you travel around the country, you will notice the subtle changes, and DON’T FORGET, the very best Thai food is very often sold on the streets, you don’t need to be sitting in a 5* hotel or swanky restaurant in Thailand, the Street Vendors are everywhere! .

Great Reasons to Visit Thailand

Thai People – there is a warmness about most Thai People that is refreshing to observe, they are genuine, they are kind, they are thoughtful & they smile – there are lessons here for us Westerners to learn!.

Most Thai people are not as affluent as their Western visitors, yet they still have an extremely "Sunny Disposition" ,maybe this is to do with their Buddhist beliefs(95% of Thais are Therevada Buddhists ), which teaches them calm & understanding, whatever it is it works!.

Great Reasons to Visit Thailand

Chiang Mai & Wat Doi Suthep TempleChiang Mai is a great city to visit & Doi Suthep Temple is its “crown jewels”. The city makes a refreshing change from the beaches of the south & the frantic pace of life in Bangkok. It’s surrounded by mountains, jungles, waterfalls galore & natural beauty beyond compare. Wat Doi Suthep Temple is just one of over 300+ temples that Chiang Mai boasts, BUT Doi Suthep Temple is the 2nd most highly revered temple in the whole of Thailand (after Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok that houses the Emerald Buddha), some 4 million visitors a year including Thai’s from the length & breadth of the country visit this most holy site.

Great Reasons to Visit Thailand

Sukhothai & The Historical Park - are located in the central region of Thailand, Sukhothai was the first capital of ancient Siam, and is widely acknowledged as being the source of both Thai culture as it is today & the Thai alphabet. The city is rich in ruins and temples that were built during Thailand’s early dynasties. Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park is said to be the seat of Thai’s ancient civilization. The park houses Thailand’s earliest architecture, art works, sculptures and more.

Wat Arun - Temple of the Dawn

Wat Arun in Bangkok - or the “Temple of the Dawn” is one of the most famous landmarks in Bangkok sitting proudly on the banks of the Chao Phraya. This stunning temple is best viewed as the sun rises as it strikes the temple it gives off an almost iridescent glow due to the millions of pieces of coloured glass , ceramic & mosaic glass that adorn the total exterior of the temple.

Great Reasons to Visit Thailand

The Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok - were built by King Rama I in the late 18th century. The Grand Palace was home to the Royal family until the early 20th century. The palace grounds contain various courts and residences originally to accommodate the living and entertainment quarters of the royal family and to serve as the seat of the government. Today the Grand Palace is used mainly for royal functions only. Also located in the grounds of the Grand Palace is Wat Phra Kaew which is the most sacred temple in Thailand and contains The Emerald Buddha.

J.J. Market, Bangkok

"J.J." Market or Chatuchak market in Bangkok as its also known is the largest market in the world covering more than 35 acres, housing 15,000 plus stalls and visitors of up to 300,000 per day on weekends. You can buy ANYTHING at J.J. Market .

Be ready to bargain for it’s the fun way to shop at this market, if you are in Bangkok over a weekend, this place is a MUST!.

Phi Phi Island

The Beaches & Islands of the Andaman Sea – collectively are the single most popular tourist destination in the Southern region. Stunning beaches, glorious blue seas & outstanding natural beauty are the order of the day here!.

Phuket is the most popular place, and it also makes a great “base” to explore the region from. Phi Phi Island ,Krabi & Koh Lanta are also popular spots in the Andaman Sea with water sports like scuba diving, snorkeling, parasailing and the likes are all readily available. If you are looking for a good day trip from Phuket, try Phang Nga Bay or James Bond Island as its better known, and if you want to explore the finest dive sites possibly in the world, head on over to the Similan Islands

Pronthep Cape, Phuket

Promthep Cape - is situated at the southernmost part of Phuket.Literally translated the name means “God’s Cape” & is THE PLACE to sit & watch the most stunning sunsets. The cape is about 2 kms south of Rawai Beach.

From the cape you can also get a great view of the small islands around the southern tip of Phuket, but make sure you arrive early, as the cape is literally “mobbed” every late afternoon, by people all wanting to view one of the most beautiful sunsets anywhere in the world!.

Full Moon Party - Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan - Full Moon Party - really needs no introduction, the
Full Moon Party takes place once a month, on the 1st night of the new moon, each party is attended by up to 10,000 party animals, and seeing is believing!!!.
