Bangkok Nightlife

Bangkok Nightlife

Bangkok’s nightlife is widely perceived as rowdy and wild. Most tourists immediately assume that the city is dominated by girly & beer bars after dark, but this is not necessarily true.

Bangkok’s night scene has diversified over the years to include good jazz clubs, live music, great restaurants and ultra-cool clubs. Bangkok had done well to veer away from its original sleazy image, made popular by go-go bars showcasing bikini-clad girls, eccentric lady boys and lewd sex shows. There are tons of different types of bars to choose from if you want to go out at night in Bangkok and first-time visitors may not make any sense of the addresses on their lists.

There are basically six districts to go to to experience Bangkok nightlife: Sukhumvit, Silom, Khao San Road, Ratchada/RCA, Chidlom/Ploenchit and Siam Square.

Sukhumvit - is considered the modern center of Bangkok and is a good area for shopping.Sukhumvit Road is not just the longest road in Thailand, but it is actually one of the longest roads in the world. It's side streets (called “soi” in Thai) are packed with hotels and shopping centers."Nana Plaza" and "Soi Cowboys", two of the most popular go-go bars in Bangkok, can be found in Sukhumvit area.

Silom - is Bangkok’s very own “Wall Street.” It the place of business for the financial institutions, multinational corporations and law firms by day.Come night-time, it transforms into the famous Bangkok "Night Bazaar" shopping area around Suan Lum and a hedonist’s dream!.Bangkok’s popular red-light area, "Patpong", can also be found in this district.

Khao San Road - is located around the north-west of downtown Bangkok. This area is where budget tourists and backpackers tend to congregate & is renowned for all the tour companies located here offering relatively cheap travel deals and accommodation throughout Thailand.

There are also many clubs here for that Bangkok nighlife experience offering a wide variety of music. The more well-known clubs here are the "Lava Bar", "The Club" and "Immortal". If you’re not keen on loud music, there are also many choices of pubs and bars here as well.

Ratchadapisek - is more commonly known by its abbreviated form "Ratchada" and is popular because of RCA (Royal City Avenue). The vibe in this area is very much young and vibrant as most of the people who come here are in their teens, early twenties or those who want to just recapture their lost youth!.

Bangkok Nightlife

Chidlom-Ploenchit - area, on the other hand, is frequented by expat executives and high society. This area’s nightlife is distinctly upmarket with its lavish wine bars and expensive restaurants.

Finally, Bangkok’s Siam - area is the quieter side of town during the evenings and does not have much to offer except for some shopping, bowling alleys, cinemas, karaoke bars and some live entertainment. Nevertheless, there are still a few bars, pubs and clubs scattered around Siam that lure in fashionable locals.

Just a single night to sample Bangkok nightlife is not going to be enough to get a feel of all it has to offer, but a little bit of research before heading out into the night will be good, especially for first-time visitors.
