Nestled in a valley between majestic mountains, the province is quite isolated from the outside world. “Backwater” Mae Hong Son was the place to banish erring military officers and civil servants before, and maybe even now!.
The provincial town of Mae Hong Son is so small the landing area for a very small plane is practically in the middle of the town.
