where to live in Chiang Mai?
by: John

Hi Kevin, we live in Samui but we are moving to Chiang Mai, we have to move soon and we have never been there before. We will be travelling by car.

We have a 3 month old baby, we want a quiet place, but not too remote, I need good intenet access and we have about 9000 bht per month to spend. We don't want somewhere that is under water. ;)

Any advice welcome - the last move was a disaster and we don't really have time for another one.

Thanks,
John

Koh Samui to Chiang Mai

Hi Pooja

Many thanks for your interesting questions regarding the distance between Koh Samui & Chiang Mai and the easiest way to travel between the two places.

The fabulous tropical island of Koh Samui is the perfect place to unwind on holiday. If you fancy a little "island-hopping" why I can recommend Koh Phangan & Koh Tao which are both also located in the Gulf of Thailand, or if you have a little extra time, hop over to the Andaman Sea side of Thailand & visit Phuket ,Krabi or Phi Phi Island ,there are also lots of smaller islands & stunning beaches to visit over there, its a great Destinations.

Ok, travelling between Koh Samui & Chiang Mai distance is around 1,500kms(900miles)you have several options:

* fastest / most expensive - fly Koh Samui - Bangkok - Chiang Mai, total flying time 2hrs 15 minutes + airport waiting time - costs from 5,000Thai baht(US$150)/person one way.

* cheapest / slowest - bus / train from Koh Samui to Bangkok, then bus or train to Chiang Mai, journey takes approximately 12 hours per section - costs from 800Thai Baht (US$25)/person/one way.

* OR, be an adventurer - drive from Koh Samui to Chiang Mai via Bangkok, take 3 days & 2 nights, see the real Thailand along the way - car hire/fuel/accommodation costs from 10,000Thai Baht total.

Chiang Mai is a wonderful city, jam packed full of history & culture, life here is not as frenetic as Bangkok ,the people are lovely & friendly, and its considerably cheaper than either Bangkok or the the southern beaches & islands.

You will love it I am sure, if you have further questions or queries, please just drop us another line!.
Best Wishes
Kevin
