Khao Sok National Park Tours

By | November 8, 2013

The Khao Sok National Park is the area’s best hope to reduce the impact of human disturbance and to preserve Thailand’s botanical heritage for future generations. The park includes the world’s oldest evergreen forest and hosts an amazing display of wildlife. Endemic species that are rare outside of the park are abundant here. Endangered species, such as the palm langkow and the Rafflesia kerri meijer, are the main focus of the park’s conservation efforts, and these plants can now live in safely in Khao Sok National Park.

Animals of Khao Sok National Park

You can find barking deer, clouded leopards, tapirs, tigers, Malaysian sun bears, elephants, and gibbons still thriving within the park’s borders. While other parks in southern Thailand are known for their wildlife and draw more people in a day, Khao Sok is considered the hidden treasure of Thailand’s park system. Visitors most often visiting the park have been enthusiastic naturalists and backpacking eco-tourists. As the word has spread about the beauty found here, interest in the park has grown immensely.

Lodging at Khao Sok National Park

There are eight independently owned lodging facilities available to visitors to the park. The operators of these facilities have united together with the park officials to form the Khao Sok Environmental Protection and Tourism Agency. The agency is dedicated to preserving the local habitats and ecosystems while ensuring responsible and regulated eco-tourism in the area. In a move that the Western hospitality industry would consider counterintuitive, the agency is investigating the possibility of limiting the amount of visitors to the area. Conservation and commerce work harmoniously in the region for the benefit of the park and the visitors. The park itself is almost 2,500 square miles, making it one of Thailand’s largest national parks, and it is easily accessible from most parts of southern Thailand.
