Chiang Mai Safe To Visit?

Chiang Mai is currently just as safe as it has always been, I live just outside the city and travel in 2-3 times a week, and everything appears to be quite normal.

There have been one or two confrontations between the various political groups & the Police, which you read about in the papers & on the internet, but never actually see anything yourself.

My advice would be travel as planned, and whilst you are here, just avoid large groups & any political rallies - and have a great time, this next couple of months are really good in Chiang Mai as the Rainy Season has not yet got started & there are not too many visitors in the city, so it makes for a very pleasant stay!.

What is the situation now, I heard Thailand has just declared the state of war in the northern provinces...and most dangerous in North East.

Is it safe in Chiang Mai now?

What is the situation in Chiang Mai now? Is it safe to travel to Chiang Mai now? I heard that Thailand has declared state of war in the northern provinces...most dangarous in the north east.

Appreciate your early advice as we are suppose to travel to Chiang Mai from 18 May 2010 to 23 May 2010
