i'm planning to travel to chiang mai on 23-29 may 2010. given the new developments in bangkok yesterday (bloody confrontation on 14 may 2010), how did it affect chiang mai? is it still safe to visit?

What is the situation in Chiang Mai now? Is it safe to travel to Chiang Mai now? I heard that Thailand has declared state of war in the northern provinces...most dangarous in the north east.
