The world famous(or infamous!) Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan
A great vacation doesn’t need to end when dusk arrives. On the contrary, a vacation wouldn’t be complete without “partee”-ing at night.
Most fun-seeking tourists love to go clubbing because for them, a vacation will not be complete unless they have experienced a place’s night life. In Thailand, the party of all parties is the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan!.
Koh Phangan is an island paradise blessed with beautiful white sand beaches located in the Gulf of Thailand between Koh Samui & the Thai mainland. Koh Phangan is famous for the Full Moon Party as well as a travel destination for backpackers.
Koh Phangan is ACTUALLY “the island” featured in the book by Alex Garland titled “The Beach”, written in 1996. The novel unfolds the adventures of a British traveler in Bangkok. The movie version in 2000 was filmed on the Phi Phi Islands in Thailand & starred Leonardo Di Caprio as Richard, the British traveler. The beautiful beaches and the interesting lifestyle and culture highlighted in the movie boosted Thailand’s tourism considerably & helped revive the appeal of Thailand for backpackers.
The Full Moon Party is held on a crescent (moon)-shaped beach called Haad Rin. The locals set up small tables to accommodate about 10,000 to 30,000 tourists and local folks alike.
At dusk, thousands of lamps are lit to serve as lights. Officially, the party begins as soon as twilight hits, when the round yellow full moon makes its appearance over the white sandy beach.
All night long, tourists and local folks get a fill of nothing but fun, what with fire eaters and jugglers as entertainers. Varied music genre is provided by dj’s all night long. From hip-hop to jazz, rock to pop, reggae to trance, the loud, pulsating and throbbing music will surely make anyone in the crowd dance! As in partee all night! Restaurants and Bars on the beach are fully-packed as both local and international tourists clamor for drinks and food.
All inhibitions and restrictions disappear as soon as the music begins. You can be at one with the crowd or just lose yourself in the magic only the Full Moon Party can serve.
The Full Moon party is an all night long beach party happening on the night of the full moon itself. The Full Moon party is famous for it was referenced in an indie movie “Last Stop for Paul” by Neil Mandt in 2006 and on a Thai film called “Hormones”.
The sand, the moon, the music, the warm camaraderie and booze, these are treats any tourist can’t resist!!.
