Day Trip Visit With Kids

Karen Pa Dong Long Neck Hill Tribe Woman

Hi,

love your website!

We are travelling with 2 families, 4 adults,6 kids. Time is short and the youngest is 5 years old.

We are keen for the kids to meet Hilltribe people, particularly the Karen Pa Dong Long Necks but we think that travel to Chiang Rai will be too long for a day visit, and we don't know whether we can do an overnight.

What are our options, that don't cost the earth but can give us an authentic experience without it being the 20 min tourist rushed meet and greet?.

I know it is difficult to get off the beaten tourist track in a fast growing tourist area, but with your local knowledge, what do you recommend?.

Thanks for creating such a wonderful user friendly website!

Sofia

Day Trip Visit With Kids
by: Kevin (Administration)

Hi Sofia
Many thanks for visiting our website & your kind words!.

Ok, in terms of the Karen Pa-Dong "Longnecks", there are several small "villages" of them scattered across northern Thailand mainly located around Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son & Chiang Dao.

Chiang Dao is the closest to Chiang Mai, the journey is around 75kms & takes just over an hour, so I would recommend a visit to here.

There is a day tour which includes a elephant show, elephant ride, some caves, bamboo rafting, visit to Lisu Hill Tribe village & "Longnecks" tour that collects from Chiang Mai & returns the same day, I have attached the link for you.

In terms of the background information about the Karen "Longnecks" in Chiang Dao, that is also added here.

I have also added a link to a page on our site all about the Karen "Longnecks" background & history.

If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again, we are always happy to try & help.

Best Wishes

Kevin
