Any visit to Chiang Mai is not complete unless you visit the Zoo & Aquarium which is situated on Huai Kaew Road at the foot of the mountain on which the Doi Suthep/Doi Pui National Park is located.
This has to be one of the most naturally positioned zoos you will find anywhere in the world, as its vast tracts of land on the foothills provide both the perfect natural habitat for the animals as well as offer visitors two waterfalls, a number of lakes, large areas of forest including picnic areas,as well as fantastic views of the city. This makes the Zoo one of the cities top tourist attractions for both Thai people & foreigners.
In-amongst the 7,500 animals housed at the zoo, are two VERY SPECIAL ONES, they are a pair of “cuddly” Giant Pandason loan from Sichuan Province in China. Their names are Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui, and always “command” the longest queues anywhere in the zoo !, there is also lots of Panda” merchandise available for sale nearby.
In a seperate area is the Nakornping Walk-Through Aviary which covers an area of 2.5 acres, and allows you to view at close quarters over 800 birds of various different types, in very natural conditions.
