Thailand is a dream destination for diving enthusiasts. With incredible sea life, fantastic clear, warm waters, and a wealth of facilities.
Thailand is also a great country to visit all year round for a dive vacation. And what’s more: when you are not exploring the underwater world you will be free to relax and enjoy the unspoilt beauty and incredible beaches that make up the rest of the country. Here we look at some unmissable dive spots that are more than worth a visit:
1 – Shark Point (Hin Bida)
For a truly exciting experience, try diving at Shark Point located just an hour from Koh Phi Phi by boat. As the name suggests, the most significant thing about this dive is the opportunity to see sharks – specifically leopard sharks, which can reach two meters in length.
This dive site is sheltered from currents by rocks, meaning you can explore the area comfortably without worrying about being taken offcourse, and as well as the sharks you can expect to see seahorses, and all different kinds of exotic fish.
2 – Koh Phi Phi
This island is world renowned as a diver’s paradise. Koh Phi Phi is a hugely popular choice for many new divers who want to learn how to dive and take their first certifications, but it is equally popular with experienced and advanced divers.
Koh Phi Phi is a beautiful island with exotic beaches, and the waters where you will be diving are rich with life – from black tip reef sharks, sea snakes and turtles through to all kinds of fish and coral, there is so much sea life here that even between dives you can see new and incredible things by snorkeling.
3 – Similan Islands
The Similan Islands are full of great dive sites, too many to list in this article! The best way to get the most out of the opportunity to see the fantastic sea life here is to stay on board a liveaboard dive boat for a few days. This enables you to cut down on the time spent getting to and from the sites from Phuket or closer Koh Lak.
The marine life in the Similan Islands is incredible, especially if you visit between February and April to see the manta rays. The visibility can be up to 60 meters here, making it a truly world class tropical dive destination.
4 – Koh Tao(Turtle Island)
Thought to be the very best dive destination in the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Tao has some really outstanding sites, including Twins, White Rock, Chumphon Pinnacle, the Japanese Garden and Green Rock.
It is a quiet island without the notorious nightlife of some of Thailand’s other top holiday destinations, but for those who simply want to see some of the best dive sites in Asia and enjoy the tranquil beaches, it is well worth the trip.
If you are a novice diver and wondering where to dive – this is the location for you! You may even be lucky and see one of the elusive whale sharks on your scuba trip.
5 – Surin Islands
The Surin Islands also offer some amazing dives, and you can enjoy them either on a liveaboard trip or by staying on nearby Koh Pra Thong. Many divers report that this area is the best place if you hope to see whale sharks, but you can also expect to see barracuda, manta rays and much more. The diving here is good almost all year round and it is thought to be more affordable than other locations in the country.
