Turkey is an amazing country, and if you are someone who likes sight seeing you will find that it has a lot to offer. It is a country that is steeped in history and this is reflected in its many museums and historic sites.
It is a country that is often referred to in the Bible, in fact many people believe that Noah's ark came to rest in the mountains of Ararat which can be found in Eastern Turkey on the borders of Iran.
Its location means that it spans more than one continent and as a result part of Turkey is in Europe while the other part is in Asia, in terms of culture you will get the best of both worlds.
In this article we'll be looking at 3 things that you should see when you visit Turkey.
Ephesus:
When you think of roman ruins, what's the first place that comes to your mind? Most people would probably say Greece, or maybe Italy. However Turkey is home to several ruins and some say there are more Greek ruins in this country than there are in Greece!.
To see some of the best ruins that this country has to offer head to the ancient city of Ephesus, which can be found on the western coast of Turkey. Here you will find many ruins such as the Library of Celsus, and the Facade. With the former being nearly 2000 years old!
Bodrum:
Bodrum is a port town which can be found on the south western coast of Turkey. It is a picturesque town that is home to the Castle of St Peter, which was built in the early 15th century by the Knights of St John.
The castle offers some amazing views of Bodrum and the Aegean Sea. It is the most popular attraction in the town and is a must see spectacle for any sight seer. The castle is also home to the museum of underwater archaeology and one of the biggest ancient glass collections in the world.
There aren’t that many hotels in the town so you may want to consider renting one of the villas in Bodrum.
Marmaris:
A bit further south from Bodrum is the port city of Marmaris. It has some glorious summer weather and is a great location for sailing and diving. One of its most popular attractions is the Bazaar which is a shopping centre with over 1800 shops!.
Here you can buy some traditional Turkish carpets, ceramics and handcrafts amongst other things. The Bazaar offers an amazing shopping experience and if you are good at haggling you can find several bargains. This is a great place to purchase souvenirs.
If you want to make your stay in the city more special, you may want to consider renting one of the luxury villas in Marmaris. Ideally you should get one that over looks the port, that way you get to wake up to a beautiful view every morning!
As you can see Turkey is a very beautiful country with some amazing sights, if you like what you have read in this article, maybe it is time to pay this magnificent country a visit.
